From Lars Pearson, Mad Norwegian Press publisher:

Welcome to your handy-dandy, rapid-fire Faction Paradox overview. For anyone who's a newcomer to the Faction Paradox novels and comics, I'm in the paradoxical situation of briefly outlining the five-year history of Faction Paradox without freaking everyone out at the thought of buying a bunch of back stock.

No, no. Don't panic. We've specifically tailored both the Mad Norwegian Faction Paradox novel and comic series as stand-alone works. Not a lick of foreknowledge is required. Even so, it falls to me, as the hapless, overworked and most certainly underpaid Mad Norwegian Press publisher, to set the stage for our players.

Faction Paradox: Books you don't need to read (but that are good nonetheless)

Previous Book Apperances In brief, writer Lawrence Miles previously debuted Faction Paradox in the science-fiction novels Alien Bodies (BBC Books, Nov. 1997), and the two-part Interference (also BBC Books, Aug. 1999). A smattering of other BBC books, not written by Miles, also involved the Faction in a very loose sense, although explaining it all here would be far, far too confusing.

You don't need to read any of this to enjoy the Faction Paradox books and/or comics from Mad Norwegian Press. But if, on pain of death, you need a list of books where the Faction previously appeared, CLICK HERE.

P.S. Mad Norwegian Press is re-publishing Lawrence's landmark novel Dead Romance, previously published by Virgin Press in 1999. The Mad Norwegian reprint will contain the text of Dead Romance (obviously), plus Lawrence's short story "Toy Story" and other goodies.

Faction Paradox: The Audios

Faction Paradox: The Audios In late 2001, UK-based audio producer BBV started releasing full-cast Faction Paradox dramas (called "The Faction Paradox Protocols") on CD. Six volumes are out and they're quite nice, with jacket art by Steve Johnson, who does our comic covers.

Again, you don't need to purchase the CDs to help your Faction Paradox comic or novel reading. But if you're inclined to learn more about them (or to purchase them from Mad Norwegian Press), CLICK HERE.

Faction Paradox: The Book of the War

Faction Paradox: The Book of the War Ah, now we're getting to the good stuff. In September, 2002, Mad Norwegian Press published Faction Paradox: The Book of the War, a 170,000-word guide to the first 50 years of the "War in Heaven," of which Faction Paradox is but one organization vying for power. Miles wrote/edited most of : The Book of the War, with contributions from a nine-member team of wacked sci-fi writers.

Needless to say, reading The Book of the War is superfluous to basking in the glory that is the comic or the novels. That said, The Book of the War remains a solid entry point into the Faction Paradox universe (and Lawrence Miles' labyrinthine mind) we obviously hope you'll give it a look, mostly because we're paupers and desperately need the cash.

Other Faction Paradox projects

Other Faction Paradox projects The ongoing Faction Paradox comic book series debuted in 2003, and the title has admittedly been plagued by shipping delays (the hazards of comic book publishing, as anyone who's spent any time in the industry knows). Still, the comic series takes place after the War and deals with its survivors (not that a drop of foreknowledge is required -- have we stressed that enough?). CLICK HERE to learn more about the comics.

In September 2003, Mad Norwegian Press will kick off the Faction Paradox novel line. As you might have guessed, you don't need to read the novels to make sense of the comic series -- or vice versa -- but we're proud of them both anyway. CLICK HERE to learn more about the novels.
