7th April 2008 - Convention dates for Mad Norwegian staffers

Mad Norwegian Press Publisher Lars Pearson and Christa Dickson have committed to attending the following conventions in 2008:

DemiCon (Des Moines, May 2-4)

Timegate (Atlanta, May 23-26)

CONvergence (Bloomington, MN, July 3-6)

DragonCon (Atlanta, Aug. 29-Sept 1)

Chicago TARDIS (Chicago, Nov. 28-30)

Pearson and Dickson will participate in a number of panels, with topics to include "Doctor Who", "Torchwood", anything Joss Whedon related, "Heroes" and many more.

2nd December 2007 - MNP to release About Time 3 (Second Ed); new Doctor Who novel guide series

Mad Norwegian Press has announced two new projects for release later in 2008: a Second Edition of About Time 3, and the debut of Fluid Links --- a brand-new Doctor Who novel / audio guidebook series that will entirely replace the company's debut I, Who guides.

In the Second Edition of About Time 3, Tat Wood vastly expands the discussion of the Jon Pertwee Era, bringing this About Time installment up to the size and elaborate depth of its fellows. Lawrence Miles, a co-author on the First Edition, will receive a "With Additional Material by" credit, as his text has either been left as is, or folded into the many revisions and additions of the new edition.

New essays in this Second Edition will include “What the Hell Were the Daemons Doing?”, “Where Were Torchwood When All This Was Happening?” and “Is This Any Way to Run a Galactic Empire?” At present, Mad Norwegian has no plans to do Second Editions of the other About Time volumes.

Meanwhile, the multi-volume Fluid Links is designed to benefit from the experience Mad Norwegian has gained since first releasing I, Who back in 1999. The series will start from scratch and vigorously examine the Doctor Who books and audios in lavish, comprehensive detail. This project is so sweeping that it has four authors (Lars Pearson, Robert Smith?, Michael D. Thomas and Anthony Wilson), and strives to become the definitive guidebooks to the material in question.

MNP Publisher Lars Pearson said: "I, Who served a purpose back in 1999, but it was done when I was new to the world of small-press publishing, and doesn't reflect the quality we've attained in recent years with the likes of About Time and AHistory. Unfortunately, it would've killed me to go through all those books again solo --- it's a LOT of material, after all --- so Robert, Michael and Anthony duly stepped up to the plate."

The initial Fluid Links installments (likely two volumes) will cover the whole of the BBC's Eighth Doctor Adventures - from its inception in The Eight Doctors straight through to its conclusion in The Gallifrey Chronicles. Essays in these volumes will include "How Much Occurs in the Vampire Science Gap?", "Is There Any Point to Parallel Universes?", and "Was Miranda the Doctor's Biological Daughter?"

Release months and retail prices for the new About Time 3 and the first Fluid Links books will be disclosed at a later time.

19th October 2007 - MNP books out for Chicago TARDIS; new cover for AHistory Second Edition

Mad Norwegian Press has announced that its two newest offerings --- About Time 6 by Tat Wood and the AHistory Second Edition by Lance Parkin --- are running ahead of schedule and should be available at Chicago TARDIS convention over Thanksgiving weekend.

Subscribers who wish to pick copies up at the show are encouraged to e-mail Mad Norwegian and collect them from MNP Publisher Lars Pearson. Otherwise, copies will be dispatched in the mail as usual.

In addition, the Second Edition of AHistory has more content than was previously reported (nearly half again as much material as the prior version) and now incorporates nearly 800 Doctor Who stories. The Second Edition also features a new cover, seen here.

24th August 2007 - About Time 6, AHistory Second Edition to ship in December...

Mad Norwegian Press has announced two books that will see publication in December...

AHistory Second Edition: Written by Lance Parkin, with additional material by Lars Pearson. The Second Edition of AHistory amends and vastly expands the work of the sold-out First Edition, continuing to incorporate the whole of Doctor Who into a single timeline.

Among other things, the Second Edition will cover: all Doctor Who TV episodes up through "Last of the Time Lords", the Series 3 finale; all Doctor Who novels from Virgin and the BBC, up through the New Series Adventure "Wooden Heart"; the Big Finish audio range up through "The Wishing Beast" (#97); all Torchwood Series 1 episodes and novels; the Sarah Jane Adventures pilot; and all Telos novellas.

In addition, the Second Edition will incorporate the Doctor Who Magazine comic strips that have been running since 1979.

About Time 6: Written by Tat Wood, this book ontinues the work of the About Time series by considering the social and political context in which Doctor Who was made. In particular, this volume focuses on the tenures of Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy, as well as the TV Movie starring Paul McGann.

About Time 6 is nearly a third larger than Volume 4, the largest About Time release to date.

Owing to expanded page count, the Ahistory Second Edition will retail for $29.95 US. About Time 6 will retail for $24.95 US.

Both books are available for pre-order on Amazon.com.

Mad Norwegian subscribers will be grandfathered in at the old rate for About Time 6. Subscribers wishing to add the AHistory Second Edition to their standing orders are asked to either order the book through the Mad Norwegian website (we will automatically combine your orders for shipping purposes), or to send an e-mail to "MadNorwegian AT gmail.com". (Spam has destroyed the old Mad Norwegian e-mail account, and we are in the process of switching to this new one.)

13th December 2006 - Four Mad Norwegian books shipping now...

In a record for Mad Norwegian Press, four books are seeing release simultaneously this week:

About Time 2 by Lawrence Miles and Tat Wood

Doctor Who: The Completely Unofficial Encyclopedia by Steve Lyons and Chris Howarth

Faction Paradox: Erasing Sherlock by Kelly Hale

Redeemed: The Unauthorized Guide to Angel by Lars Pearson and Christa Dickson

Parcels for US subscribers and international customers who just ordered the Faction novel are already in transit or are going in the mail this week. Mad Norwegian Press will contact all other international subscribers to outline their options... the About Time subscriptions were tailored for two deliveries to save on shipping, but some customers have expressed a desire to explore options with regards to getting what's presently available faster.

US retailers should receive their copies shortly, and UK retailers will get their books in stock throughout the next two weeks.

Mad Norwegian Press thanks its customers for their support, and hopes they appreciate the newest round of books.

14th September 2006 - MNP to end Faction novel range with ERASING SHERLOCK

Mad Norwegian Press has announced that its Faction Paradox novels, based on the Doctor Who spin-off range as created by Lawrence Miles, will end their run with Erasing Sherlock by Kelly Hale in November.

MNP Publisher Lars Pearson said: “We’ve accomplished a great deal with the Faction novels, and we’ve had some success selling them to the non-Doctor Who market. For instance, gamers who didn’t know a thing about 'Doctor Who' took a liking to them. Unfortunately, it’s probably not a surprise that we are heavily reliant on the Doctor Who readers for sales, and those readers have been more and more focused on the new Doctor Who series ever since 2005.

“That’s not a criticism, you understand, as we’re as thrilled about the success of the new Doctor Who as anybody. But looking ahead, we’re foreseeing fewer and fewer opportunities for Doctor Who spin-off novels. With everyone focusing their energies so heavily on the new series, it doesn't leave much room for the spin-off ranges. That being the case, it’s probably best to quit while we’re ahead.”

Faction readers are also advised that Diamond Distribution will NOT be soliciting Erasing Sherlock. Interested customers are advised to find other venues such as Doctor Who specialty stores... Amazon UK is also recommended for pre-orders, although stocks through non-Amazon US branches tend to get more haphazard after a book's release.

(Pearson is quick to mention that the decision to end the Faction novels had been made *before* Diamond opted against stocking the book, and that Diamond's decision should NOT be interpreted as "the last straw" that led to the range's cancellation. Nonetheless, Faction readers are advised to seek out non-Diamond sources for the book.)

Mad Norwegian Press thanks its long-time Faction Paradox readers for their staunch support, and hopes they enjoy Erasing Sherlock come November.

4th July 2006 - I, WHO vol. 1 going out of print...

Mad Norwegian Press has announced that after seven years, its debut book --- I, Who: The Unauthorized Guide to the Doctor Who Novels --- is going out of print.

Specialty retailers will continue to have some copies in stock (Galaxy Four in Sheffield, in fact, just purchased the last available case of I, Who from the publisher). Mad Norwegian will also retain a limited supply of "scuffed" copies to sell through the company website at a discount. But in the main, mint copies will no longer be available from the publisher.

Plans ARE in motion to publish further DOCTOR WHO novel and audio guides. MNP Publisher Lars Pearson comments: "We've greatly enhanced our quality since publishing I, Who back in 1999, and frankly, it'd be a sorry world if we hadn't improved our writing and publishing skills in all that time. So we're going to let I, Who lapse out of print, but Mad Norwegian readers should know that we ARE writing more novel and audio guides even now. When all's said and done, this should present the readers with even more detail and commentary on the WHO novels and audios than ever before.

"You'll have to forgive if I'm circumpsect about the new novel and audio guides or their release dates --- in my business, anything can change and generally does. So I'd rather keep quiet on the details and make a solid announcement down the road, rather than make an announcement too soon and have to keep altering the release dates."

I, Who 2 and I, Who 3 will continue to be available from the publisher. Mad Norwegian Press thanks everyone for supporting its debut range, and hopes they'll enjoy the novel / audio guides to come.

25th June 2006 - MNP sample pages up on Amazon.com...

Sample pages of most Mad Norwegian books are now available on Amazon.com, and the offerings include Ahistory, the About Time series and the Faction Paradox novels.

Also included: Mad Norwegian Press' G.I. Joe guide (Now You Know), Transformers guide (Prime Targets, Buffy guide (Dusted), and the third installment of the I, Who series (I, Who 3).

30th August 2005 - Mad Norwegian Press makes appeal for New Orleans residents

Although Mad Norwegian Press relocated from Louisiana to Iowa in 2005, New Orleans was home to the company for four years. The city's residents are in the thoughts and prayers of the Mad Norwegian editorial staff, and the company appeals to its readers, should they be able, to donate to the Red Cross or the multitude of charities dealing with the disaster. For anyone untrained in rescue operations, financial aid appears to be the best means of support.
